Saying Hi to the Moon

"Lots of times I talk with him. Especially when he gets big and I can see the expression on his face. 'Hi, Moon!' I say, so happy to see him always, 'What's up?'" Jane Wodening is an American artist, writer and the mother of five grown children. She spent ten years living alone, "in a tiny cabin with no amenities at ten thousand feet altitude...During this time I played and thought and hiked, enjoyed amateur radio, chopped wood and carried water, wrote a book which seems to be unpublishable, and pulled together and published seven books of short stories." Now 87, Jane lives in a little house "at the edge of Denver," where she continues to write. What follows is a brief and personal excerpt from her writing, at once a meditation on mortality, and a window into her tender connection with the moon.
