In their award-winning short film Trailhead, documentary filmmakers Emily Fraser and Henry Weiner offer an exploration of the history and heart behind the creation of hundreds of miles of interconnected wildland trails minutes from downtown Oakland, California. Profiling the volunteer network of hikers, bikers, dog walkers, historians and educators who donate their time to help maintain this cherished place of refuge and recreation, Trailhead highlights the importance of community in protecting and preserving this gateway to the East Bays majestic redwood forests. Inspired by their shared love and appreciation of nature, these dedicated environmental stewards maintain trails, restore wildlife habitat and provide local students and youth groups with the opportunity to enjoy and learn about the natural world and continue the critical legacy of conservation.
